I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, of the spine, and it just gradually got worse. By profession I’m a nurse and it really hampered my nursing career and then eventually I was put off work… because of the problems.

I was having problems with my hands mostly in that when I was writing – I do a lot of writing – my right hand was like a claw.

Well, I had got arthritis in 1988 and nothing I had done seemed to work…I actually had bad results from the medications I was on.
As far as joints were concerned, it went from 1 place to another, it’s that kind of arthritis, and it hurt me in hand or my knee, my feet… I never knew where it was going to turn up.
